Love Story/Hawaii- Part 1

To fully understand the beauty of my trip to Hawaii, I must share with you our love story, from my point of view. Soldier Boy might make a guest appearance to tell his side.

Soldier Boy and I have kept our relationship pretty low key for the past seven-eight months. Only a select few have known the depth and intensity of our relationship. Now that we are 'official', I happily get to share it with you.

Soldier Boy + Cupcake Princess

How did it begin? Any of you remember his guest post on my blog back in October? It was so cute. It doesn't begin there though. It all started back in August.

Facebook so kindly suggested that I add Soldier Boy as a friend. He had this sexy picture (I have a thing for a man in uniform) soooooo I did what any single girl would do and decided to stalk him. Then, I messaged him. To this day I have no idea what provoked me. We were mere acquaintances in middle school and high school. I hadn't talked to him in over a decade. But I did it.

"David! I didn't realize you were in the Army AND living in Hawaii?! How awesome! I have a gf in

Hawaii who is in the Army too. Hope all is well! Seems like life has treated you well :)"

'Seems like life has treated you well' -aka- you're hot. Luckily he responded and thus began our daily conversations. He was in Afghanistan at this time on a deployment that wasn't very active so, thankfully for us, he had time on his hands as did I. We talked about anything and everything under the sun. Really deep conversations and some ridiculously silly ones. He made the mistake of saying he loved answering questions. I was so interested in his life and him. I longed to know more. It soon became the highlight of every day. I told myself it would just be a fun friendship. He is a great guy. No harm to be done.

We have exchanged over two thousand Facebook messages to each other.

It's hard to say when it really hit us that there was something there. Browsing through our convos it was probably around October-November. It became obvious we were attracted to each other. It became obvious to me when I really missed him when he was gone for a day or two and couldn't talk. But I'm pretty sure I won him over with my care package delivery of cupcakes. Yeahhhh. We all know the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. We sent each other pictures, videos, emails and skyped. He melted my heart when he would call me at work. Along with the "I miss you's" which is just ironic in itself but we just wished we could be with each other. It just came natural to say that.

'I've Got A Feeling' became our song. He sent me beautiful Christmas roses. There were a lot of hard days. I questioned a lot, as did he, what we were getting into. He made very sure of what life would be like with dating someone in the Army. I'm very thankful for him doing that. (and very thankful for my fellow military-wife blogger friends) As much as it scared me, I knew that I could not let this man go.

At some point we started talking about Hawaii and the possibility of me coming out there to visit. It became official when he called to ask me to be his date. It was adorable. And thus my heart melted.

He stole my heart.

We fell in love.

We admitted it to each other mid-January.
Three months before we would get to see each other face to face.

It's pretty crazy that I would fly all the way to Hawaii to spend a week with him, right? It was hard to talk about with family and friends because they didn't know the intensity of our relationship. Some people thought it was weird. Some people warned me. I prayed about it, a lot actually and about us. I didn't want to go through all of these emotions, all this time, and it be awful or I end up heart broken for the millionth time. I felt God telling me it was what I should do. I knew I would forever regret it. And so my little butt got on that plane on April 21, bound for Hawaii.

Quite possibly the best decision I have ever made.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post of my arrival, the nerves, becoming official and our first kiss!

Aloha friends!!

What an amazing time in Hawaii. But honestly, all I could 'see' was the man I am deeply in love with. Nothing else mattered.

Sadly, I am back home, without my other half. Going to try and put together a recap for y'all soon, along with our lil love story. My coworkers tell me I am glowing, tis true. Our story makes me smile and all googly eyed.

I am so happy with how it turned out.

Special thanks to:

My bff. She is always helping me with design work. She's pretty dang good too! She did my cute 'hi! my name is michelle' picture. She also designed my sisters save-the-dates and wedding invitations! Can't wait to show those off come August.

Fitness Talk

{i love this}

It seems that Tuesday's have turned into fitness talks!

Hope y'all don't mind!

Everyone needs a lil {or a lot} of motivation every now and then!

I got my body fat percentage checked today.

March 16
Weight: 118
Body Fat %: 24

April 17
Weight: 116
Body Fat %: 22

I am in the category considered "fit" or "healthy" for women.

Do you see that?!?! I AM DOWN 2% in BF!!!
It's a small number but it means so much!
My hard work and dedication is paying off. Seeing the results is what really keeps me motivated.
My weight, I could care less about, as I have previously talked about.

I also found an awesome recipe for those looking for a quick meal on-the-go or for work.

Jamie Eason's Turkey Meatloaf Muffins- they are delicious.

Get moving, friends!

Friday's Letters!

{y'all he did this for five minutes! apparently he didn't want it to be bed time}

Dear Jax baby, you are the bestest furbaby ever.

Dear April 13th, be kind to my sister today, it's her birthday! She feels super old (25) and I find it my duty as her older, more mature sister to rub it in as much as possible. Muahahahaha.

Dear Life, you have been wonderful this year.

Dear Body, we are finally getting along, let's keep it that way, I kinda love it.

Dear Shorts, after years of despising summer because I hate the way I look in shorts, I have finally found comfort in wearing you again. Welcome back into my life.

Dear God, you have shown me so much the past few months. My heart has been changing. Thank you for taking me the long route sometimes. I know now that I needed it.

Dear Francis Chan, I am reading your book Crazy Love again (because I was able to DL it for free on my Kindle! Holla!) and it's really sinking in this time. You're an inspiration.

Dear Soldier Boy, 8 days! EIGHT DAYS. Can't wait to walk through that airport and see your handsome smiling face. And I kinda sorta can't wait til we are FB official. Hehehe. Love you!

Have an awesome weekend friends!

Life's Storms

Thank you for ALL the sweet comments on yesterday's post! Y'all melt my heart.
I am just so ready for Hawaii (10 DAYS!) I need a break from everyday life and a mental break from weight training and to be with my other half.

As soon as I get back thought I have big plans: new job and I will be starting a new training program by James WilsonI'd love to do CrossFit but it does not fit my budget at all. Pretty bummed about it.

Oh! And I can't WAIT to show y'all the big changes coming to the blog!
You may have already noticed a slight title change.

This was my devotional today. It was too good to not share. I know so many people who have been facing some really tough storms that life has thrown their way. I hope this encourages and comforts you.

Romans 5:3-5 (NLT) "We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us--they help us learn to endure. Endurance then develops strength of character in us, and character strengthens our confident expectation of salvation."

Life is filled with storms of one kind or another. In the midst of those storms, we tend to respond as if God has somehow been caught off guard. The storm makes no sense. We can't explain why terminal illness strikes godly people. We don't understand how our strongest friends can become our fiercest critics. The anguish of a broken marriage or the overwhelming heartbreak of a prodigal child drives us to doubt God's purpose, plan and provision. The fear of financial ruin paralyzes us. God understands.

The Bible is filled with men and women who were storm survivors – people of God who endured great pain and weathered intense life storms because they chose to follow Him. The Apostle Paul, known for persecuting and murdering Christians, was forever changed when he met Jesus Christ. While God gave him a life of great power and eternal impact, it was also a life filled with great storms. Paul learned to "patiently" endure the troubles, hardships and calamities that came his way. (2 Corinthians 6:4 NLT)

Because grain was a precious food source to the Romans, threshing grain was a natural part of every day in ancient Rome. In pictures of early Rome, one man is always seen stirring up the sheaves while another rides over them in a crude cart equipped with rollers instead of wheels. Sharp stones and rough bits of iron were attached to these wheels to help separate the husks from the grain. This simple cart was called a "tribulum" from which we get our word "tribulation."

No Roman ever used his tribulum as a tool of destruction - only refinement. God uses our trials and storms as tools of refinement to build in us endurance. The word "endure" comes from two Greek words that when combined, give the meaning "to remain under." It is the capacity to stay under the load, to remain in the circumstances without running away or looking for the easy way out.

The purpose of every storm is to purify and cultivate endurance. Like Paul, we may sometimes feel as if we are being torn to pieces under the pressure of circumstances. But his challenge to the Romans compels us to re-examine our perspective and response to each storm we face. "We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us--they help us learn to endure. Endurance then develops strength of character in us, and character strengthens our confident expectation of salvation" (Romans 5:3-5 NLT).

Endurance is never passive. It is the picture of a soldier staying in the heat of the battle under terrible opposition but still pressing forward to gain the victory.

There are few things that we can count on in this unpredictable life - but we can count on storms to come. We can also count on God's continual and unfailing strength for those storms. When the hard times come and when bad things happen, we do not have to wonder where God is. Instead we can hold on to the promise that is found in Jeremiah 16:19, "Lord, you are my strength, and my protection. You are a safe place for me to run in times of trouble" (NLT).

An old seaman once said, "In fierce storms we can do but one thing. There is only one way to survive. We must put the ship in a certain position and keep her there." Richard Fuller commented on the old seaman's words:

"This, Christian, is what you must do. Sometimes, like Paul, you can see neither sun nor stars, and no small tempest lies on you. Reason cannot help you. Past experiences give you no light. Only a single course is left. You must stay upon the Lord; and come what may -- winds, waves, cross seas, thunder, lightning, frowning rocks, roaring breakers -- no matter what, you must lash yourself to the helm and hold fast your confidence in God's faithfulness and his everlasting love
in Christ Jesus."

No matter what storm rages in your life today – no matter how fierce the winds or how high the waves may be – where you are is no surprise to God. Heaven is not in a panic. Keep your gaze on Him and your glance on the raging waters. "Lash yourself" to Him and He will supply everything you need to stand firm in the storm.

Fitness Talk 2:

Guess what y'all?!

Man, I don't even know where to begin. It's been a real tough journey. There were many many days where I had to force myself out the door/fight with my laziness/fight my way to the weights at the gym/eat healthy. The last week was the hardest, as mentioned before, because of the cardio workouts. I won't go into this too much more since I already talked about my experience here.

Before starting this program, by no means was I overweight. I ate awful though. I treated my body like a waste basket. And you can tell. I have some saddlebags and cellulite that my little frame should not have. I didn't step on a scale the entire 12 weeks because losing weight was not my end goal. I'm 5'2 and weighed 120lbs before starting. At the end of this program I now weigh 118lbs.  Therefore I have a lot more work to do. I've seen a huge improvement. My legs have not only gained muscle but they have leaned out, abs/lovehandles are shrinking, and my arms have gained muscle/leaned out. Seeing the progress my body has made makes myself even that more motivated to keep it going. I refuse to let myself slip again!

Friends, I dare you to ditch the scale!

Alright, here are the raw, unedited pictures.
It's hard to show these but I want y'all to see my progress.
And I want to document it for myself.

No pictures of my legs though.
I am not at a point where I am happy with them to be able to show them off.

note to self: take better pictures or have someone else take them for you.

You can pretty much see I am just all flab. No definition.

leaner, obliques making a slight comeback.

I love my arms.

The supplements I took:

-most found via
-C4 Extreme - Blue Razz is a booster drink. I take it before a run or leg workout.
-I don't really like the RELOAD.
-Accelerade - Orange is my favorite drink while on a run or during a workout.
-I use chocolate whey protein for after my workouts, mixed with unsweetend vanilla almond milk.
-I use the vanilla whey protein (bought at Walmart) for my morning smoothies or to put into recipes.

Thank you to all who have motivated/encouraged/loved on me!

Instagram is now available for Android phones!

I've been waiting for this day since the day of my existence.

Fitness Talk

Hey friends!!!

Have a seat. Go refill your coffee.

Or leave. No hard feelings if you do.

I have a bunch of jumbled up thoughts, all fitness related, as I am on my last week of Jamie Eason's LiveFit 12 week training program. I might share the before and after pictures on here, but I am not sure if I am ready to be that vulnerable.

The results I have gotten are amazing. I am not where I want to be but I am far from where I use to be. I have also become a lil bit obsessed with weight training. I even find myself lusting over athletic shoes... what the what?!

Don't workout to lose weight, workout to get fit!!!!!!
{you will lose weight in the process!}

MUSTS {in my own opinion}:

1. EAT CLEAN, EAT CLEAN, EAT CLEAN!!! Jamie Eason can help you with it! Yes, it's a lot of work (meal prep, grocery shopping, dining out, etc). Yes, it requires a lifestyle change. But hey, you wanna get to your goal? You want that hot bod? OK then. This is the first and most important step. Even if you aren't training, this is so so so good for you!!! I can not express it enough. Yes, I still have 'cheat meals' and yes I still drink a Dr. Pepper (my one true love) every now and then but honestly, I don't think people realize what they are putting into their bodies. It's going to take you 10x more work to work off that can of soda. Make smart choices. It'll pay off. Trust me.
2. WEIGHT TRAIN. Once upon a time I thought I could lose weight and tone up by just doing cardio alone. Wrong. I saw very little results. You have got to weight train! It's important for your core and the weight will shed a whole lot easier as you lean up. No, you will not bulk up. It is almost impossible for women to bulk up. So stop using that as an excuse. Not sure how to use weights?! They have instructional videos of how to use weights and machines and for free! That's where I learned everything. Don't be afraid of getting in there with the men. Claim your bench and get to work. When weight training it is suggested to drink protein shakes within 30 minutes after your workout.
3. CARDIO. This is my nemesis. I have grown to loathe cardio. I'm struggling with it this week actually, but cardio is where your excess weight will come off and your muscle definition will start to show/you'll lean out.

Where do I get my inspiration/motivation? A lot has come from my results. Seeing my body change for the better keeps me going. But I also get it from Pinterest, following female athletes/bodybuilders (like Jamie Eason) on Facebook, and having someone to root you on, like Soldier Boy.

No gym membership? Another popular excuse, one I have used all too much. With the internet at your finger tips, there are plenty of at home workouts you can find. Get yourself a nice set of weights and get er done!

Have questions? Feel free to ask, I will do my best to answer, I am still learning!
Want to add to this list? Feel free to leave it in a comment.

Palm Sunday

{picture by moi}

They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the King of Israel!" {John 12:13}
